Us ladies over at Bright Things HQ have gone totally gaga over Aussie label Black Milk. We all know no one does skin tight pants quite like Australian designers (Sass and Bide Black Rats anyone?!) and the prints from Black Milk are no exception and EPIC to say the least!

Designer James Lillis has created a cult fashion line that has a huge fan following due to his avantgarde and at times macabre designs. From 3 dimensional skeleton print dresses (that actually work with old skool 3D glasses) to house of horror skinless look leggings, there is something for everyone to express themselves!

With his expert cuts that flatter the female shape (more than you could imagine lycra and spandex ever doing!) and his array of fashion forward prints, James has found a much sought after niche in the market and made it his own.

Most importantly he obviously has a passion and drive for what he does which means lucky us will have more design hitting the rack soon!

About Black Milk James say’s..

I still love making clothes. I still love hearing from girls who buy the clothes. I love seeing all the different ways girls style their Black Milk pieces, and I love working with all the Black Milk team.

I’m just the guy with the coolest job in the world.

To check out the rest of Black Milk hit up their website and get your credit cards ready for some action because once you take a peak there is no going back!

Keep up to date with the adventure and mishaps as we follow journalist (and all round amazing lady) Katie Paterson as she missions her way across South America. Travelling on all forms of train, planes, automobiles and live stock!

If you are an avid traveller, keen to learn more about the ‘Rough Guide’ to SA or enjoy a good and genuine account of traveling by yourself, then this one’s for you!

Chapter 1. Crazy cab rides, gorgeous hostel and no breakfast!

Oh my god it´s been scary today! Like good scary I guess but NO ONE speaks english here! The flight was all good, watched some Spanish films with subtitles to practice and had an empty seat next to me so slept a bit. The transfer in Bogota was a bit sketchy as I found it very hard to know what was going on! It was all very casual with no real security and the plane looked OLD! There was crazy turbulance the whole 2 hrs and 45mins! And an air hostess asked if I spoke Spanish and when I said no she moved me to a window seat at the front because I think she said they couldn´t do the emergency exits talk etc in English so I was by one just in case! Yeah, didn´t sleep quite so much on that one! I swear one of the wings was held together with tape!!

My airport pickup was a bit crazy, he didn´t really say anything to me or offer to carry my bag the were no seatbelts and he was stalling and beeping his horn at people the whole way! Seems people here just beep there horns whenever! Was over a half hour drive through the absolute ghetto and I was freaking out, just loads of boarded up buildings, stray dogs, loitering men, rubbish and grafitti and I was panicking but the centre of town is much nicer and would you believe it the hostal looks like the pictures?

There is an aviary on the roof with parrots and peacocks and Roman looking statues and paintings! The bathroom is rank, shower cold and there was a big weird beetle in my room last night but other than that all good, think interent is free, well we´ll see if they say anything when I go to walk out I guess! I met a nice woman called Marta this morning who spoke some English and she said the hostal was not doing breakfast today, she says she´s been staying here a little while and they do that sometimes! So I´m just about to venture out and find a cafe as ´tiene hambre!´. The aeroplane food was okay but a bit weird, you had the choice of pollo or carne and both came with beans, mushrooms and rice and some non descript sauce! I tried to use a payphone earlier but don´t know if I didn´t put the code in right our hadn´t put in enough change but it didn´t work, hopefully I´ll buy a sim today. Going to walk into the centre of town in a bit I think, keeping my ears out for English speakers to tag along with!

The amazing crew at Underground Cinema our offering a 1x Double pass for This saturdays event for one of our lucky viewers!! All you have to do it send us a message via our contact page to tell us why you deserve the prize. Please note bribes will be accepted.

The winner will be announced by Tuesday!!

Underground Cinema is a secret film screening event held in undisclosed locations throughout Melbourne. It could happen anywhere; a warehouse, a forgotten ballroom, a carpark. They believe that predictable is boring – so they’ve made their locations secret and they keep the films’ identity a mystery too – just to keep you guessing.

We’re not about your average multiplex experience. Arriving at their locations is like walking onto a film set, with live performances recreating elements of the movie you’re about to see. Its an experience not to be missed and one we have greatly enjoyed in the past.

We interviewed UGC director Tamasein Holyman for Bright Things TV in Episode 2 of our very first season. Check out the feature below.

If you are an avid traveller, keen to learn more about the ‘Rough Guide’ to SA or enjoy a good and genuine account of traveling by yourself, then this one’s for you!

Chapter 2. Making Amigos!

Yesterday was amazing in the end! I went for breakfast in this cute little cafe that was covered in pictures of the Beatles, accidentally ordered a massive fried egg thing but liked it! Then went into town and it´s so beautiful, loads of colourful magnificent buildings and if you look down any side street you can see the outer districts which are all tiny colourful houses up these massive hills, you can climb one to get to this cross at the top but the road is closed at the moment. I went to a photography exhibition that was amazing, i couldn´t understand much but from what I could gather it was about the day to life of various Peruvian communities, from mountain people to doctors, really cool photos, about 8ft square each. there was also a short film showing which I watched but had no subtitles so was mainly guess work. There were some very sad pictures, I think there have been some bad civil battles here in the 80s and 90s, I think it´s something to do with the campesinos being communist and the government not being…wish I could´ve understood more but they were still very touching.

As I walked into town there was a big protest going on, I think it was teachers striking, they marched infront of the town hall, there were loads of armed police about but it seemed like a regular occurrence. I also saw the royal marching band do a little march with trumpets and drums in front of the palace, can´t find my camera lead or I would upload some of my photoes. I met a guy from Japan called Toshi and he had hired a guide for the day and said I was welcome to tag along so I did, we went onto the roof of Peru´s first university and had a great view, the roof was crumbling though and had holes in it – didn´t stay up there for long! The three of us went for lunch which was nice, when I told them where I was staying they were like “Whoa! Downtown!” yep, apparently I am in the ghetto and they said there are much nicer safer areas where you can go out in the evening etc, the tour-guide gave me the address of a hostal by the beach in Miraflores and I might move there today. It was interesting walking around the markets and I could´ve bought so much but held off, there are more Jesus souvenirs here than you could shake a cross at! I went back to the hostal and was sat by the aviary reading (btw there are also tortoises there, I love feeding them!) and this guy called Hendrick came over and started chatting, he was lovely and from Estonia and introduced me to this girl he had met called Sylvia who is a model from Miami, she´s so funny, I´d noticed her in town earlier when a shoe shine guy was pestering her to clean her shoes she said “no, me gusta sucio” which is Í like them dirty´and it made me smile. So anyway it was her birthday so we went had some some beers and some food, tried Pisco also which is the national beverage, it´s brandy and you have it with sugar and lime, it´s very refreshing! We chatted to lots of people from our hostal and I met a guy who used to run nights at the Volks which is my favourite club in Brighton! We also met these two aussie guys who are really funny and we all went out to celebrate Sylvias birthday, was a really fun night and we got a free taxi home! Now we are all off to the beach! Feel so good to have met so many nice people already and my confidence with Spanish is improving.

Thousands of people crowded beachfront grandstands on Saturday to watch the world’s best skateboarders compete in the eighth annual Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi 2012.

Sixteen-year-old professional skateboarder Pedro Barros (BRAZIL) took out his third consecutive Pro Title after a heated final that saw him using every inch of the bowl at full-throttle speed, busting everything from head-high stalefish 540s, to technical lip trickery like alley-oop frontside 50-50s around the tight corner, just beating an impressive Bucky Lasek (USA) and Rune Glifberg (DEN). Competition was equally fierce in the Masters Division with an epic display of skateboarding genius. Legendary skateboarder Steve Caballero (USA) wowed the crowd with his effortless style, experienced consistency and signature frontside inverts, fingerflip Indys and of course his original Caballerial spins that saw him take home his fifth consecutive Masters Title at the event.

After eight years Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi continues to wow a growing audience; “We are proud to have been involved with this event from its inception eight years ago. Each year we make a real effort to increase the prize money and elevate the event for the benefit of both skateboarders and spectators. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Steve Caballero’s Half Cab shoe, so to have him win the Masters is particularly memorable. It’s an incredible result to have Pedro win the Pro’s too.” – Deena Colman, Vans Australia Marketing Manager.
